The Jesuit Centre of Spirituality is a centre founded by the Jesuit Community of Halifax in Advent 2005. The mission of the Centre is to make spiritual direction, daily prayer with scripture, and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius available to all people of God in Atlantic Canada. It provides training and continuing education for spiritual directors and supports the growth of faith communities. It offers some accomodations for residential retreats. We extend a warm welcome to all people of faith. Our aim is to provide a safe space for people searching for what is important in their life. We offer non-judgmental spiritual guidance, always seeking to help those who come to us find what is right for them.

Director of the Centre: Jean-Marc Laporte, S.J.
Since 2009 I have been the director of the Jesuit Centre of Spirituality in Halifax, succeeding the founding director, Fr. George Leach, deceased in 2009. We are all grateful for his stellar contribution.
A few words about myself: I was born in Edmundston NB and spent my early youth in Sackville NB. My family moved to Montreal, and I went to Loyola High School and College. I entered the Jesuits in English Canada in 1958, was ordained in 1967, and most of my life I taught theology at Regis College, the Jesuit faculty of theology at the University of Toronto. I was its president from 1975 to 1982. I was the director of the ecumenical federation of schools of theology in the U of T, known as the Toronto School of Theology, from 1992 to 1999. Thus I am very open to the ecumenical outreach of our centre in Halifax. From 2002 to 2008 I was provincial superior of the Jesuits in English Canada. I am now the director of the Centre and the priest-in-charge of the neighbouring parish of St. Patrick's.
