We are delighted to announce that MARY BOYD will receive the 2010 MAGIS AWARD at a luncheon on November 13 in Halifax. During the same time Fr. William Ryan, S.J. will offer a presentation on the recent ground-breaking encyclical letter of Benedict XVI, Caritas in Veritate (Charity in Truth.)
Mary Boyd is a lay woman from Prince Edward Island, active in the apostolate of social justice for some 46 years. Her range of interests and competences within the world of social justice is very wide. She is the founding director of the MacKillop Center for Social Justice in Charlottetown PEI. She has been active not only in her own province, but in the Maritimes and internationally, serving as a missionary in Ghana and Nigeria for 6 years as a member of the International Grail movement.
Fr. William Ryan, S.J. is an outstanding expert and lecturer on social justice issues within the Jesuits in English Canada, founding director of the Center of Concern in Washington DC, and acting director of the Jesuit Forum for Social Faith and Justice in Toronto. He has been giving a series of presentations on Benedict's Encyclical letter in dioceses within central Canada.
